Child-focused mediation and guardian ad litem (GAL) services
We wish to work in an active and constructive partnership with the legal, mental health, and other professionals involved in any case brought to us. In particular we recognize that when attorneys are involved, their influence will usually be longer and deeper than ours. Even when parents reach agreements, the attorneys will be responsible for implementing those agreements and fostering future cooperation long after our services have concluded.
Our partnership with attorneys will usually include a conference call with all counsel at the very start of a case. Two important questions are always a part of that conversation: (1) Where are these parents, where would we all like them to be in a year, and how can the professionals help get them there? and (2) What issues should be the subject of our office’s services (for example, all issues or only the child-related ones)? We also welcome opportunities for others to co-mediate with us. In those cases, we ask that those fellow mediators use our website and intake approach.
In all circumstances, we believe our partnership with all professionals must include the courteous cooperation that parents can learn from and emulate in their future problem-solving.
