Charlie and Barb Asher have combined their respective careers in law and social work to offer mediation and guardian ad litem (GAL) services uniquely focused on children’s needs, parents’ preparation, and professionals’ cooperation.

The Ashers have led the team building the award-winning “UpToParents Family of Resources” (ABA Dispute Resolution Section’s Lawyer as Problem Solver Award and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts’ Irwin Cantor Innovative Program Award). They are in use in several settings including as tools for better results in co-parenting education, mediation, counseling, and parenting coordination.

The Ashers have written and taught numerous co-parenting classes for separated and divorced parents addressing the insights they bring to their current work.

The Ashers have also created www.AssessFamilyLaw.org, an opportunity for judges, attorneys, and others to assess their jurisdictions’ family law systems and receive immediate feedback on possible improvements.

Charlie is an honors graduate of both Earlham College (B.S. 1974) and Indiana University School of Law (J.D. 1977), a preeminent AV-rated attorney (top 5%), and past chair of the ADR Section of the Indiana State Bar Association. Barb has her Masters in Social Work degree from Western Michigan University (M.S.W. 1990) and has counseled clients in a variety of family issues, including a broad range of parenting and co-parenting matters.

Charlie and Barb enjoy a blended family with five children. They count as one of their greatest joys and accomplishments the friendly and child-protective co-parenting they’ve practiced for over 20 years with their former spouses.
